Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Undeterred by the Rain, a winner emerges

As downpour accompanied the much anticipated 4th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, street traders had a field day as they lined up the streets to make brisk business.

he marathon which was ushered in by a downpour started around 6.25 a.m. with many traders already out to supply both the runners and the spectators’ needs.

This years marathon is different because not all contestants are expected to run the 42 Kilometres, there is also a 10 Kilometre Race.

Surprisingly, despite the rain that started during the competition, many contestants kept running in hopes to win the prize money perhaps.

This year, the winner is expected to go home with $50,000 while the 1st, 2nd and 3rd runner ups will each receive 40,000, 30,000, 20,000 respectively.

Gideon Goyet has emerged as the first Nigerian to cross the Finishing Line at this year’s Lagos City marathon and will receive a prize money of 3 million Naira.

A petty trader, Adaeze Uchena, said she was out to supply the needs of the participants, adding that it had become a norm since the inception of the marathon for her to make brisk sales.
