After Dr Peter, a 61-year-old British scientist and Roboticist got diagnosed with a motor neuron disease in 2017, a disease that allows for the nerves and brain to lose function over a period of time, he decided to upgrade his body to become the world’s first full cyborg. According to doctors, his life was predicted to end in 2019.
This unwelcomed news encouraged Dr Peter to hack his body to become the most advanced cybernetic creature to exist in 13.8 billion years.
The operations done on Dr. Peter targeted the systems in his body that were bound to fail, first he underwent a series of surgeries to insert a feeding tube directly into his stomach, also a Catheter was placed directly into his bladder, and a colostomy bag directly into his colon, now he can control his feeding and toilet issues without aid.
He also underwent a Laryngectomy, a surgical removal of the Larynx which connects the nose and mouth to the lungs, to prevent saliva from going into his lungs, which is a very delicate and common dangerous factor that affects people living with motor neuron cancer, although his natural voice was vanquished after the operation but replaced with synthetic speech which according to Dr Peter was a fair trade, the switch to him was a form of prioritizing potentially decades of life ‘’
More so, a life-like avatar of Dr Peter’s face was innovated by him, the avatar makes use of artificial intelligence to correspond to his communication with other people, followed by a laser eye surgery which gave him a fine-tuned vision at 27.5 inches, which he also hopes to upgrade to help him control multiple computers, all at once.
The journey of making more out of Dr Peter’s human system is one that science has successfully contributed to, science has renewed a failing body and surgically made it an advanced one, more advanced than other living beings, according to Dr peter ’’ I’m not dying, I’m transforming oh how I love science ‘’ he said. He also believes that MND – ( Motor Neuron Disease) should be thought of less as the death sentence so many people consider it to be and more seen as an opportunity to upgrade.
Furthermore, his successful upgrade has prompted him to build up a The Scott –Morgan foundation and get members of the parliament to fiscally support the campaign ‘’Right to thrive’’, the foundation aims to break through the restrictive health care guidelines and lack of essential funding for people living with MND.
