A total of 52, 538 persons have been vaccinated out of the initial AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Katsina State.

The government said that going by that, the state will not experience the 3rd wave of the pandemic ravaging some Asian and other countries of the world.

The Executive Secretary of the state’s Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya, made the disclosure shortly after flagging off the 2nd round of the vaccination.

He said all arrangements have been put in place to sustain the high compliance rate, witnessed in the first round.

At the flag-off event, the Governor, Aminu Masari, his Deputy Mannir Yakubu, and other top government functionaries, were given their second jab of the vaccine.

As of the time of this report, Katsina State has not recorded a single case of the virus or deaths, since it took delivery and began vaccination on March 10 and 11 respectively, with a total of 107,540 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines.

The state, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, had recorded a total of 2,097 cases, with 34 deaths.

At the moment, all the treatment centres are empty with no patient on admission.

The Executive Secretary, Katsina Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya said, the first vaccination was done in 4 phases, to cover both the front-line health workers, bankers, media, security personnel, and strategic leaders.

According to him, 52,538 were vaccinated, breaking it down as; 16,026 health workers, 17,828 other front line workers, 510 strategic leaders while 2,211 intending pilgrims took the vaccines.

Dr. Yahaya appreciated the level of compliance and cooperation of the people. He urged them to maintain the Covid-19 protocols to curtail the spread of the disease, and prevent a third wave of the pandemic and further lockdown in the state.

He further hinted that the state is continually reviewing its strategy to ensure that the borders are safe, especially with travellers coming into the state.

The Executive Secretary, therefore, expressed optimism that the second round of vaccination will be successful, as many who took the first jab, did it voluntarily due to the involvement of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, as well as other strategic leaders in the state.
