Five people have died and about 2,000 taken to hospitals due to heat exhaustion as a heat wave continues in Japan on Monday.

Local media quotes the Japan Meteorological Agency temperature topped 35 Celsius degrees at 186 of its 927 monitoring points, including areas in Hiroshima and Okayama that experienced a record torrential rain from July 5.

The weather agency has warned that the heat waves will continue this week across Japan except in Hokkaido and Okinawa.
