Eid-El-Fitr Celebration: Nigerians Urge FG not to impose total lockdown

Nigerians have called on the Federal Government not to impose a total lockdown should there be a spike in Coronavirus cases but to be strict in enforcing the laid down guidelines across the country.

A cross-section who spoke to reporters in Abuja during the Eid-El-Fitr celebration said the nation’s economy will not be able to accommodate a total lockdown due to the harsh situation as millions of Nigerians are yet to recover from the previous.

Others urged President Muhammadu Buhari to keep working out solutions that will tackle the deepening security challenges in Nigeria.

For the past two months, there has been a drastic drop in numbers of COVID19 cases including a zero-incident recorded in the daily data released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, but on Thursday, Nigeria confirmed 53 new cases.

On Monday, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 announced new restrictions to curb the spread of the new strain of the virus and avoid the high incidence and fatality rate witnessed in far-away India, Brazil, and Turkey.
