Police deploy 3,147 personnel for Eid in Bauchi State

The police have deployed 3,147 officers and men, comprising of conventional police and a tactical team, to all the Eid praying grounds and venues of events in the Bauchi State.

The Command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement, said the strategic officers will also strengthen the visibility of the policing structure, particularly around residential areas, major highways, government, and private infrastructure to prevent any ugly situation during and after the celebration.

The security situation in Bauchi State is questionable at the moment, following the influx of people from Yobe State, during the Gaidam attack by Boko Haram, about three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Emirates’ Council has bowed to pressure and made a U-turn on its earlier decision to suspend this year’s Durbar celebration and other activities.

The Council’s Information Officer, Babangida Hassan, had earlier in a statement, said the  Emirates’ Council has resolved to suspend this year’s Durbar celebrations and other activities for security purposes.

The decision of the Emirates Council seems not to have gone well with some residents who condemned the action.

Barely 24 hours following the previous announcement by the Council bowed to pressure with the Chairman of the Durbar Committee, Muhammad Gidado, who is the Madakin Bauchi while addressing journalists shortly after their meeting said, the Council after consultation with the State Government and other relevant key stakeholders, has resolved to now hold the 2021 Durbar celebration and other activities, as tradition demands.

Now that the earlier decision to cancel the durbar has been reversed, the residents are hopeful that the age-long tradition will be celebrated peacefully with adequate security protection.
