Former Nigerian Finance and Foreign Minister, Okonjo-Iweala has officially resumed on her first day as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, The WTO released a press statement welcoming her onboard.
The accomplishment will make her the first-ever female and African to ever take up the reins as the WTO Chief.
On her first day, Okonjo-Iweala said she is grateful to work in one of the world’s most important institutions and is ready to get started as there is a lot of work to be done.
She started her first day visiting an ice sculpture in front of the WTO’s headquarters, welcoming a civil society’s plea to stop funding overfishing.
As Okonjo-Iweala settles in to carry out her agenda for the WTO over the next few years, it is hoped that she will achieve success and attain new heights that will leave an indelible footprint at the organization in typical Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala fashion.
