2 persons dead in Anambra state as IPOB sit-at-home order takes toll on people

Unconfirmed reports from Nnewi, the industrial city of Anambra State say at least two persons have been confirmed dead from gunshots as the sit-at-home ordered by the Biafra self-determination group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, takes a toll on the people.

The short video of video obtained by reporters from a resident showed that the victims were allegedly gunned down by suspected unknown gunmen.

Eyewitnesses said they heard gunshots at Izuchukwu Junction as early as 6:00 O’clock, Monday morning only to come out to see two lifeless bodies of young men. But nobody could explain who shot them.

The identities of the victims are still undisclosed as police in the area are yet to confirm the incident.

Major streets of Awka, the capital city are totally deserted as residents and vehicles keep off the roads.

The popular and ever-busy Unizik junction, as well as Abakalki road, are shadows of themselves as all business premises within the areas are shut down.

And in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State, the story is the same as streets, markets such as the famous Onitsha main market, Ochanja, motor parks, and the ever-busy Upper Iweka, are totally empty of the usual business and vehicular traffic.

Journalists monitoring the situation in Anambra State reported that there were pockets of gunshots by unknown groups at the popular Aroma and Unizik junctions in Awka, in the early hours of Monday.

The Anambra State Police Command is yet to speak on the developments.
