Seventeen members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have boycotted the North Central House of Representatives’ two-day public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution which held in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
It was gathered that the 17 members were missing in action during the important exercise following a face-off between them and the State Governor Simon Lalong, on the issue of Autonomy.
Efforts to speak to some of the members on the camera were unsuccessful, however, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State Assembly who would not want his name to be mentioned said it was a unanimous decision by all the members to boycott the hearing.
He went further to say the members are tired of being remote-controlled by the Governor and have even rejected to be paid their two months’ salaries by the State government, insisting that they want to be in charge of their financial transactions and to also pay themselves.
Other issues on the ground he said are that of the conduct of fresh Local Government elections in the State with the idea of another transition management committee which the House said the Governor took them unaware when he made the announcement.
