14 dead, 924 confirmed cases as Cholera outbreak hits Plateau State

Health authorities in Plateau State have raised fresh alarms over an outbreak of cholera in the state. The disease according to the State Epidemiologist, Martina Nuwan, has already claimed 14 lives with over 924 confirmed cases.

The disease according to the state epidemiologist has been identified in 11 local government areas of the state with three as hotspots.

Open defecation and lack of proper hygiene among others have also been identified as vehicles for the transmission of the disease.

As the rains intensify, health authorities have cautioned residents on the need to exercise care and be informed on health hazards such as cholera and how to prevent the spread.

Cholera is an infectious disease that causes severe diarrhea which can lead to dehydration and even death if left untreated.
