The task force for the enforcement of the new security measures put in place by the Zamfara State Government says, it has arrested over 1000 suspected bandits collaborators and suppliers of food items, petrol, as well as dangerous drugs to the bandits in the bush.

The Taskforce disclosed this while speaking on its efforts to ensure strict compliance with the Executive Order, signed by Governor Bello Mohammed, to place a ban on the sale of petrol in Jerry cans, restriction of movement of motorcycles with clutches in the 13 local government areas of the state and other security measures to curtail the activities of the bandits.

The prevailing insecurity in Zamfara State is what has pushed Governor Bello Mohammed to institute drastic security measures to eliminate the activities of bandits in the state.

Following the new measures, the governor constituted a taskforce that has been charged with the responsibility of moving around the state to monitor and ensure compliance with the measures.

The taskforce said that it has arrested over 1000 suspected bandits’ informants, collaborators and intercepted food items, alcohol and other hard drugs in the last few weeks.

On the reopening of some weekly markets in the state, the taskforce explained that the idea is to reduce the hardship of the residents, by creating jobs and enabling farmers to sell their farm products.

The taskforce said poverty and lack of education are some of the major factors responsible for banditry activities in Zamfara State.

It said the state government is doing everything possible, to tackle the situation.
