Members of the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH chapter have embarked on a three-day warning strike to press home their age-long demands.
Declaring the warning strike at an emergency congress of the union in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, the chapter Chairman, Olutunde Oluwawumi, noted that their agitations border on workers’ welfare and conducive work environment.
Oluwawumi said the management is still owing the members’ promotion arrears since 2010 hinting that there is an urgent need to renovate all the dilapidated structures while the obsolete medical equipment in the health institution is replaced.
As of the time of filing this report, the affected health workers have been ordered to vacate their duty posts by the union as they were seen returning to their various homes.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the management of the health institution, the Head Corporate Affairs Unit, Olabisi Ajiboye, said the management is aware of the development and will soon issue a statement.
For Nigerians to access stable and quality health services, the union said that the government must invest in the sector and pay all the backlog of promotion and skipping arrears of members of JOHESU and other relevant health workers.
