Authorities at the University of Uyo have shut hostels in all their campuses to forestall the breakdown of law and order due to a cult war.

A statement issued by the Registrar of the school, Aniediabasi Udofia, directed all students residing in the hostels to vacate them with immediate effect and that those who had academic activities still running should operate from their respective homes.

According to sources, a 300 level student said to be from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences was killed on Tuesday by a rival cult group which led to a reprisal attack by members of his cult group.

Sources further said that in carrying out the reprisal attack the cult group shot a student of Fine Arts in a case of mistaken identity which led to tension in the school leading to the action by the school authorities.
