Meanwhile, four United Nations agencies and the Zambian government have agreed to begin a program that aims at empowering refugees with life skills instead of spoon feeding them as it were.
The agencies are the International Labour Organization- ILO, United Nations Development Programme-UNDP, Food Agriculture Organization- FAO and Japanese International Community Agency-JICA.
The new project was announced yesterday when representative from the Vice President’ office and the four UN agency representatives paid a courtesy visit to Kaoma District Commissioner Kennedy Mubanga at his office.
Their plan would include bringing sustainable development in the resettlement areas for former refugees in the Mayukwayukwa (mayu-kwa-yu-kwa) and Maheba refugee camps that aids in resettling them.
Following the agreement, the government on the other hand through its Lands and Planning Department in the Office of the Vice President will help the organizations secure land for schools, roads, clinics and other infrastructure.
