According to award-winning naturalist Dr. Paula Kahumbu, who broadcast the story on her social media platforms, Stuchburry a renowned Conservationist was shot dead after four attempts at her entrance at Mushroom Gardens Estate in Thindigua.

The assassination, according to Kahumbu, was linked to the activist’s work for environmental protection.

“Joanna Stuchburry was shot dead. She is known for her relentless attempts to protect Kiambu Forest from developers. Nothing was stolen (during the shootout). May she rest in eternal peace and may the culprits be caught and punished, “

According to her neighbours, the conservationist stepped into an ambush. She was murdered by the gang at 5 p.m. while walking around the neighbourhood. Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived at the crime scene to conduct a scientific examination and start the investigation into the assassination.

President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his sympathy and opposed the death of the late Kenyan environmentalist. Uhuru praised Stuchburry’s work on environmental conservation in his sympathy statement.

“It is very sad and unfortunate that bad people have senselessly taken away the life of Joanna Stuchburry in such a senseless manner. For the longest time, Joanna has been a steadfast champion for the conservation of our environment and is remembered for her relentless efforts to protect Kiambu forest from encroachment,” the President stated in the press release issued by State House on Friday morning, July 16.

He also urged security forces to find and apprehend the offenders, describing them as cowardly enemies of Kenya. Uhuru also prayed to God to give Ms Joanna Stuchburry’s family the strength and fortitude to cope with the devastating death of their loved one.

“My government will pursue and apprehend the criminals behind the killing of Joanna. We will not allow a few misguided individuals to continue shedding the blood of innocent people working hard to make Kenya a better place for all of us,” he assured.
