The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, Taraba State University chapter have embarked on an indefinite strike over welfare issues.

The decision by both bodies is based on the welfare of their members, since the inception of the institution in 2008.

The industrial action by the SSANU and the NASU of the Taraba State University is to drive home their demands on welfare issues to the management of the institution.

The removal of the allowance of non-teaching staff, the shortfall in salaries, the non-implementation of the pension scheme, and the selective payment and promotion of staff are some of the issues at stake.

To ensure strict compliance with the strike, officials of both unions moved to the offices to compare notes of members that reported for work.

The university management is, however, unhappy by the impromptu strike. Despite the industrial action, academic activity is ongoing.

The university was recently ranked as one of the 20 best in the country by the National Universities Commission, NUC.
