One of Tanzania’s wealthiest and renowned businessmen, Reginald Mengi has passed away yesterday in Dubai, UAE.

Reginald Mengi was 75 years of age at his demise. Mengi was well known for his philantrophy and wealth. Mengi was estimated to be worth $560 Million in 2014 by Forbes on the list of the 100 richest people in Africa.

Mengi grew up in Kilimanjaro to very improverished parents but rose to become a very affluent man. He was the founder of the IPP Group, a company that manufactures the bestselling Kilimanjaro water brand, involved in Real Estate, Manufacturing of consumer goods and a renowned Media company.

Luckily, last year, Mengi published his autobiography, I Can, I Must, I Will a book detailing his rise to affluence and life. Condolences have poured in from so many places. The Tanzanian President has described Mengi as Tanzania’s most illustrious capitalist and humanitarian.

“One of the things that Mengi has showed us with his life is that it is possible to rise above one’s circumstances if one is willing to pay the price. There is no shortcut to success. Mengi’s story is a wake up call to young Africans to work hard and persevere despite of the odds,” the President had said.

Reginald Mengi is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Ntuyabaliwe Mengi and four children.
