South Korean President, Moon Jae In to Ban Dog Meat

South Korean President, Moon Jae-In announced on Monday that dog meat consumption may be prohibited in South Korea. This is due to the increase in awareness of animal rights in South Korea.

His spokesperson, Park Kyung-mee shared on the development after a briefing by the Prime Minister, Kim Boo-kyum who spoke on efforts to improve the management of abandoned animals and create a registration system for dogs.

Dog sellers are not happy about the development, saying the policy will cut them off from their source of livelihood, also that they have a right to their chosen profession. Dog meat consumption seems to have faded with the older generation but is still being purchased at some select markets.
