Several hundreds of people have been confirmed dead in Palma after militants stormed the area targeting shops, banks and the military barracks.
The terrorists linked to the Islamic State group are responsible for at least 2500 deaths and 700,000 displaced people since 2017 since the insurgency began.
A lot of people are still missing and the town reportedly scattered with lifeless human bodies.
Many who tried to escape the offensive hid at the beach while some died while trying. A local source disclosed thagvat least 1400 people arrived in the neighbouring town of Pemba.
