Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Sahabi Kaura, says if illegal mining activities are curtailed in Zamfara State and other parts of Nigeria, it will help to generate more revenue for the Federal and State governments, as well as bring an end to insecurity.

He said this while fielding questions from reporters in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital,  on what can be done to tackle the prevailing security challenges in the state and the country at large.

Checkmating the activities of illegal miners is believed by many as one of the solutions to banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, and can also generate huge revenue for the country.

It is against this backdrop that the Senate Deputy Minority Whip is sponsoring a motion to checkmate the activities of illegal miners.

It had been alleged that some of the illegal miners have turned into criminals, in the guise of engaging in mining in Zamfara State.

The Federal lawmaker disclosed that banditry started as cattle rustling and gradually moved to kidnap and other criminalities.

He said to tackle the menace, government should provide grazing grounds for the herders.

He stressed that once that is done, it would address one of the biggest problems which have been causing insecurity in the country.

Senator Kaura pledged to complement the government’s efforts by first providing the grass for grazing, towards ending the herders/farmers clashes in Zamfara State.

The Senator said insecurity needs to be urgently resolved, hence the need for citizens to support the government with prayers and credible intelligence, to flush out the security challenges, currently facing the country.
