Regardless of the presidential directive from President Museveni to Mr Sam Cheptons, the Minister of Water and Environment to evict all encroachers of riverbanks and lakeshore, sand miners have once again been caught on the shores of Lake Victoria scooping and excavating sand and loading it onto trucks.

The Miners were caught at Buwaya-Nakiwogo in Wakiso District. The Wakiso District chairman, Mr Maria Lwanga Bwaruka disclose that he had informed Dr. Tom Okurut, the executive director of the National Environment Management Authority NEMA.

According to Bwaruka, Okurut revealed he was aware of the illegal mining activities that have taken place in the district and they already tried to involve the NEMA police but were unsuccessful and they were now trying to involve the army.

Dr Okurut disclosed that the Authorities were already taking actions that will soon be revealed to the public.
