Rwandans celebrate Umuganura despite COVID-19 fears

Rwandans have decided to celebrate this year’s Umuganura at the family level due to the Coronavirus pandemic fears across the globe.

The Ministry of Youth and Culture made the announcements saying that talk shows related to the event as well as Urrukerereza will be done via multiple media outlets.

This years theme has been titled – Umuganura: A source of unity and foundation of self-reliance

Umuganura is a yealy national holiday in Rwanda akin to the U.S thanksgiving holiday where on the first friday of every August, as far back as the 9th century, all agricultural produce will be offered to the King and the King in turn kneels before his people as a show of humility

The tradition is usually followed with by sharing of sorghum cake, as well as other food and drinks

The day is considered a sign of unity amongst Rwandans and also to celebrate achievements, correct past mistakes and plan for the future.
