Kathryn Mayorga, who accused Cristiano Ronaldo of rape, got the courage to speak about her alleged ordeal via the #MeToo movement says her lawyer.
Leslie Stovall who represents Mayorga disclosed this during a press conference, “The #MeToo movement and the women who have stood up and disclosed sexual assaults has given Kathryn a lot of courage.”
Kathryn Mayorga did not attend the press conference, with her lawyer, Stovall defending her absence as a result of her emotional state.
The alleged rape incident took place in a penthouse suite of the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas after they met at the Rain Nightclub.
Stovall said Mayorga suffered from major depression and at some point contemplated suicide, with a psychiatrist diagnosing her of post-traumatic stress disorder since the alleged assault in 2009.
Las Vegas police through a released statement confirmed an initial investigation of a rape complaint in June 2009, “At the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description.
As of September 2018, the case has been reopened and our detectives are following up on information being provided.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and his legal team have three weeks to respond to the lawsuit.
Leslie Stovall disclosed the options before them includes the releasing police reports and medical records, which are deemed extremely vital to this case.
