Residents doctors in Zamfara State have joined their counterparts in a nationwide industrial action to press home demands for better working conditions.

The Secretary of the Zamfara State branch of the National Association of Resident Doctors NARD, Umar Muwaffak, said there is nothing new that the associations are asking the Federal government to do other than honour the agreement reached since 2016/ 2017.

Muwaffak said the resident doctors are asking the government to commence immediate implementation of the agreement.

He said the association hopes to see a concrete and practical commitment by the Federal government to fulfill the agreement and until that is done the resident doctors would not call off the indefinite strike embarked on.

The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, Bello Mohammed said measures have been put in place to ensure that patients are attended especially those on emergency cases.

Mohammed said there are other doctors who are not on strike and have been deployed to strategic wards to attend to patients.

He however expressed optimism that the current impasse between the resident doctors and the Federal wilk be resolved soon as both parties are in talks.

Some patients and caregivers have appealed to both parties to resolve the matter as the strike takes untold hardship on the people.
