Workers in 67 Research and Allied Institutions in Nigerian Universities and Hospitals have resolved to proceed on an indefinite strike.

Joint Research and Allied Institutions Sector Unions, JORAISU, at a briefing in Abuja said the decision to proceed on strike was reached following the expiration of an extended 15 day ultimatum midnight of Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

The Unions said an agreement was reached 10 years ago on Research funding, allowances, and upscale of salary structure that has lingered for too long.

While the Unions expect a proactive reaction from the government, sources in the Ministry of Labour and Employment said they are yet to receive any information regarding the development but hope the strike will be arrested.
