Police confirm death of student during Plateau Polytechnic protest

The Plateau State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed that one student of the State Polytechnic who was being treated following injuries sustained during Monday protest is dead.

The Command’s Spokesman, ASP Gabriel Ubah, who confirmed the development in a statement said the deceased who was earlier on rushed to the hospital for treatment after Injuries sustained by a stray bullet could not survive.

Recall that the Plateau State government on Monday issued a statement denying any casualty on the protest by the Polytechnic students who blocked the main highway in to the state.

However, the government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang, on Tuesday, also confirmed the development regretting the sad incident which resulted in the death of the Students.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, Manjang assured that the government will not spare anyone found culpable in the death of the student.

He said the Deputy Governor directed a government delegation to visit the family of the deceased student to sympathise with them over the sad and unfortunate situation.

Meanwhile, the police said they have commenced an investigation into the incident.
