Cardi B: Rapper Confirms Separation From Offset

American rapper Cardi B has confirmed that she is no longer with her husband.

The mother of two told her 169 million followers during a recent Instagram live session that she has been single for a while now.

She said she has been meaning to disclose her current relationship status but didn’t know how to go about it.

Her revelation came hours after rapper Blueface accused her husband, Offset, of having sexual relations with his baby mama, Chrisean Rock.

However, Offset has denied the allegations, saying he has never talked or touched Blueface’s baby mama.

Financial Services: C.B.N. Suspends Charges On Cash Deposits Above N500k Until April

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has suspended the processing fees on cash deposits above N500,000 until April 2024.

The apex bank made the announcement in a circular signed by Adetona Adedeji, its acting director of banking supervision.

On September 18, 2019, the financial regulator effected a charge of 3 percent for processing fees for withdrawals and 2 percent for deposits of amounts above N500,000 for individual accounts to promote cashless transactions.

The CBN also directed banks to charge 5 percent processing fees for withdrawals and 3 percent for deposits of amounts above N3 million for corporate account holders.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences once again to the families of Nigerians who lost their lives in the recent and sad bombing mishap in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State.

Speaking at the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the President pledged that the Federal Government will continue to do all within its powers to provide support and care to the families of all Nigerians affected by the remnants of insecurity in parts of Borno State.

The President declared that under his watch, security issues would remain a top priority, but not limited only to battlefield concerns.

Nationwide Darkness As National Electricity Grid Collapses Again

Abuja, Lagos and other major of cities in Nigeria have been thrown into darkness following another collapse of the country’s national electricity grid.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed this in a statement on Monday, December 11.

The nationwide outage occurred in the afternoon, leaving power consumers across the country in total darkness.

According to the statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s spokesperson, the restoration of the national power grid is already ongoing.

[Lagos] 11 December 2023 – Today, Google unveiled the findings of its 2023 Year in Search for Nigeria, showcasing the most popular searches, notable individuals, actors, musicians, topics, questions, and other subjects that captured Nigerians’ attention throughout the year. Google’s Year in Search is an annual analysis that reveals the top trending lists and also spotlights what the world searches to see, learn, and do.

 

In Nigeria, this year’s results show a heightened interest in lifestyle, local politics, and notable personalities such as Moyo Lawal, Peter Obi and Oladipupo Oladimeji, aka Oladips, who topped the trending people’s list for 2023.

 

Significantly moving up to first place in 2023’s top trending musicians category is Asake, followed closely by singer Khaid and rapper Shallipopi, with Asake’s song “Lonely at the top” also topping the search list of trending songs. Nigerians were evidently interested in entertainment this year as can be reflected in the search for  “Gangs of Lagos”, “Shanty town,” and “Soso lyrics”, all of which topped the movies, video series and lyrics categories respectively.

 

Singer Mohbad. Yoruba actor Murphy Alabi and actor and film producer Saint Obi, all of whom passed this year, topped the search list for loss, with Mohbad also topping the category for the most searched Nigerian news topic in 2023.

 

Other top-searched questions like “Who is the winner of the 2023 presidential election?”, “What is fuel subsidy?”showed how concerned Nigerians were with the political and economic affairs of the country and how Google Search was used to learn more about their interests in 2023. Naira Falls By 17% To N951/$

The naira fell by 17.91 per cent to N951.22/$ on the official Investor and Exporter forex window on Wednesday.

This was as the dollar supply fell by 4.94 per cent to $135.58m from $142.63m.

Data from FMDQ Securities Exchange revealed that the naira lost N144.49 against the dollar after closing trading on Tuesday at N806.73/$.

The naira’s volatility in the market continued despite efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria to stabilize the national currency.

Finance: Banks To Disconnect Non-Deposit Financial Institutions From Transfer List

Banks have been asked to disconnect Switches, Payment Solution Service Providers, and Super Agents from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Instant Payment Outwards System.

According to the national payment infrastructure company, the listing of non-deposit-taking financial institutions as beneficiaries contravenes the Central Bank of Nigeria guideline on electronic payment.

To operate in Nigeria’s payment ecosystem, operators must get at least one of the following licenses from the CBN, Switching and Processing; Mobile Money Operations; Payment Solution Services; and Regulatory Sandbox. Only MMOs can hold customer funds, according to the CBN.

Post Election: Gunmen Attack Kogi Guber Election Tribunal Secretary, Steal Petition Documents

Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the attack on the secretary of the state governorship election Tribunal, Mr David Umar Mike on Monday in Lokoja and made away with sensitive petition documents on the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya, the armed attackers, wielding guns, targeted Mike and his colleagues just before the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office around 1:20 PM on Monday, December 04, 2023.

The tribunal officials, including Mike, were en route to the tribunal venue at the state High Court complex in Lokoja when the assailants struck.

Military Invasion: Amnesty Knocks Military, Says Kaduna Bombing Unacceptable

Global rights group Amnesty International, has knocked the Nigerian military for the accidental bombing that killed over 85 villagers and injured several others at Tudun Biri village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday.

The rights group described as “unacceptable”, the “persistent unlawful killings of civilians” by military air strikes.

Amnesty accused the Nigerian military of cover-up and demand that justice be served on the matter.

Nigeria/Benin Relations: Tinubu Says Cooperation Imperative For Economic Prosperity In West Africa

President Bola Tinubu says cooperation is imperative for economic prosperity in West Africa, noting that a lack of synergy between Nigeria and Benin Republic has been an encumbrance to mutual development.

Speaking when he received President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu said Nigeria and Benin Republic share a lot in common, describing both countries as conjoined twins held together at the hip.

In his speech, President Talon, said he was at the State House to seek the support of President Tinubu on improving trade relations, ahead of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Summit, describing the relationship between his country and Nigeria as crucial.
