Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been called to speak before the House of Representatives regarding the current mistreatment of Nigerians in other countries, particularly the United Arab Emirates.
This was revealed by Rep. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, during a weekend press conference.
Tolulope Akande-Sadipe stated that the Minister owes the country an explanation of what is happening with Nigerians in the diaspora, expressing her concern as to why Nigerians are constantly harassed in foreign countries.
She highlighted her concern that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was still not doing enough to ensure that Nigerians in their various abroad locations were treated with respect.
“The biggest concern right now in the UAE,” she says. We’ve invited Nigeria’s Foreign Minister to attend and brief us on Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly in the United Arab Emirates. We’ll know where to go from here once we get this news.”
Nigerians will not be swept under the carpet, according to the Oluyole Federal Constituency representative.
“Regardless of what is going on, I assure you that this subject will not be resolved solely through hearings.” We’ll see to it that something is done. You may recall the case of Temitope Ariwolo and other Nigerian females who were repatriated. “We played a significant role in that victory,” Akande-Sadipe added.
