The National Football League Players’ Association, NFLPA, has called on the NFL to improve on its coronavirus safety measures, or risk not having a championship this year.

In a statement, the players’ union representative said the union and players had failed to reach an agreement, in preparations for the 2020 season.

President of the NFLPA, Cleveland Browns’ JC Tretter, said the fact that coaches accept that the players will get sick, is a major sticking point and concerns for the players.

Players went on social media to question the league’s decision to provide a safe atmosphere and measures in dealing with COVID-19, as the teams prepare to open training camps.

While the football league and the players’ association have agreed to some protocols, in which teams will conduct training camps, the league has said it hopes to have a full season, but continue to have unresolved issues on frequent testing, the structure of the teams, the length of the preseason amongst others.

While the league hopes for a full season, it said it is willing to adjust, as recommended by medical experts.
