Summer Olympics: South Korea puts Seoul out bid, a possible co-host with North Korea

South Korea’s Olympic committee has announced that the nation’s capital, Seoul has been put up as the host city for its 2032 Summer Olympics bid.

Seoul edged southern port city of Busan 49-34 in a voting process and South Korea hopes to jointly host the Olympic games with rival North Korea as a peace gesture to the Korean Peninsula.

North and South Korea are expected to officially announce their joint bid for 2032 Olympics to the International Olympic Committee during a meeting on Friday in Switzerland. 

Although North Korea is yet to formally announce its candidate city for the Olympics, the capital Pyongyang is tipped to be announced because it is more developed than other North Korean cities.

A successful bid to co-host the 2032 Olympics will be a massive diplomatic step in easing tensions and bring peace to the Korean Pennisula
