The 19th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) going on in Abuja has been able to unearth new sporting talents and the most recent is Princess Kara of Team Delta who became the latest diamond, seizing the stage to sparkle when she beat more fancied opponents to win gold in the Women’s Discus Throw at the championships.
Kara said she was spurred to victory by the determination to make “many people in her life proud” and none more than her late coach Felix Opuana who passed away on August 27, 2018, and to whose memory her victory is dedicated.
Kara has been steadily building up herself on the athletics circuit having participated in the 2016 National Youth Games and the 2017 National Private University Games. She was also a part of the Nigeria contingent to the Confederation of African Athletics Region II U-20 Championships in Ghana and competed in the 2018 African Athletics Championships in Asaba.
Having announced herself on the national scene, Kara now has her sights set on making a name for herself on the continent at the 2019 African Games where she hopes to sneak in under the radar and announce herself with a bang, much like she has done at the 2018 NSF.
