The Nigerian Army has recommitted to supporting the brave officers, men, and women who are working daily to defend human dignity and advance the cause of freedom of Nigerians across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, however, noted with regret the situation in some areas in the North Eastern States of Nigeria where heinous acts of terrorism continue to be perpetuated by Boko Haram terrorists.

In the statement signed by Brigadier General Sani Usman, the Nigerian Army appreciated the support and partnerships with local and international non-government organisations; specifically, the National Human Rights Commission whose human rights training programme have largely enhanced the human rights awareness and education of army personnel.

This year’s Human Rights Day with theme “Let’s stand up for equality, justice and human dignity”, marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that enshrines the fundamental freedoms of religion, expression, peaceful assembly and association for all individuals, everywhere.
