More than fifty people have died and about one hundred and twenty injured as a result of ethnic clashes in Somaliland as clans exchange heavy weapons fire the second day in a row.

The injured are said to be dying of blood loss because the hospitals available are further away.

Earlier in the year, Somalia’s president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo called on warring factions in the Somaliland and Puntland regions to negotiate for peace and agreeable coexistence.

Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 and operates as an independent state but has not won international recognition.
