Cross river, UNFPA inaugurate response centre for gender-based violence

In a response to the increase in gender-based violence, Cross River State Government in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund has inaugurated a prevention and response centre in Calabar.

Speaking at the event shortly after an advocacy rally, wife of the State Governor, Linda Ayade, said the establishment of the centre was motivated by the need to checkmate gender-based violence.

Dr. Ayade’s position was shared by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Stella Odey, who decried the increased rate of violence against women in Cross River State.

The representative of UNFPA Country Director, Kenneth Ehouzou, said the campaign was about creating awareness of the negative impact of violence and abuse on women and children.

Gender-based violence in Cross River, especially against women and children, have been on the increase and described as unbearable.
