The African Union, AU, has on Tuesday given Sudan’s Military a deadline of 60 days to hand over power to a civilian government.
This counts as the third deadline issued within two months to Sudan’s Transitional Military Council. The first and second deadlines were issued by AU’s peace and security control.
The first deadline was for 15 days. It was issued after the ousting of President Omar al-Bashir by the Military. The president was overthrown after a series of anti-government protests which commenced in December, 2018.
The second deadline was issued in Cairo at a special AU summit where the military was issued a three-month lifeline to regularize power situation or relinquish their membership to the AU.
The military and protest leaders in Sudan are in talks, but yet to reach a concrete agreement on the hand over.
