Niger’s newly sworn-in President, Mohamed Bazoum has promised that education and security would be top priority during his administration. Bazoum’s swear-in is the first ever democratic transition of power in Niger, known for an overwhelming rate of Islamist Insurgency and heightened political uprising.

The swearing in ceremony was graced by many foreign dignitaries on Friday in the capital, Niamey from over 20 different countries.

Bazoum is looking to create boarding schools for women close to their villages and also change the narrative of the country with the highest fertility rate in the world. He also noted that the low records of school attendance will be reviewed.

He will be succeeding Mahamadou Issofou who stepped down after completing two terms as President
