The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, comprising of River and Bayelsa States, Pat Don Awunna, has officially assumed command on Monday.

Don Awunna shortly after his arrival at the Police Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital, told reporters that the thrust of his operation would be centred around a police-people driven partnership.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, after arrival at the Zone 16 Headquarters in Yenagoa, immediately inspected a guard of honour mounted to receive him.

The AIG who thereafter held a brief meeting with Officers of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 16, later told reporters that his assumption of office would signal a new era of police and community partnership in crime-fighting.

Awunna who had previously served as a Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State said his leadership would provide the needed support for Commands in the State to succeed and will not engage in needless competition.

He took over from the former Assistant General of Police Austin Agbolanhor who retired about a month ago.
