National Youth Games: Team Delta Wins 6th Edition

Team Delta has emerged as champions of this year’s National Youth Games, winning it for a record sixth time.

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, who declared the game closed, said he believes the investment of the Ministry into grassroots sports development is a worthy venture that will benefit the nation.

Delta State won 60 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze, totalling 114 medals overall. Team Lagos came second with 19 gold, 25 silver, and 28 bronze totalling 72 medals.

Team Edo is third with 18 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze to earn a total of 40 medals. Enugu, Gombe, and Zamfara ended the competition without picking a single medal.

Some notable athletes discovered are nine-year-old, Gift Torhile from the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and Wilson Bright from Delta State who did well in athletics.

Thirteen-year-old duo Obiefeuna Munachi from FCT and Mustapha Oriyomi from Delta State came tops in gymnastics.

Others are the weightlifting trio of Florence Olarinoye from Lagos State, Victory Okundia from Edo State, and Marvelous Chidirim from FCT.

Not forgetting Para Athlete, Akinwowon Oladeji from Lagos State who won the 100m, 200m, and 400m races.

Enugu, Gombe and Zamfara States ended the competition without picking a single medal.
