Ahead of November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, the National Assembly has invited the Service Chiefs and Heads of security agencies as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ascertain the level of preparedness in conducting the polls.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, Kabiru Gaya, while presiding over the joint committee on INEC and Electoral Matters said the invite is in view of the level of insecurity that has bedevilled the state in recent time.

He further said that INEC recently increased polling units in Anambra State from 4,608 to 5,720 to allow for accessible polling units to the electorates, affirming that this can only be achieved when and where the safety of the people is assured

The INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, again reiterated that the electoral umpire is ready for the November 6 Anambra elections with over 81, 000 voters duly registered.

Mahmood further said the INEC has achieved 12 out of the 14 activities leading to the election mapped out upon release of the timetable for the election on January 19, 2021.

He said the Commission has recovered from the attacks on its facilities in the state and have deployed all non-sensitive material to all 21 local government areas of the state.

The INEC boss also revealed that the agency has trained to requite Adhoc staff and mobilized transport owners for electoral logistics.

However, security chiefs failed to honour the invitation.
