Mauritius has extended its lockdown as death toll rises

Mauritius has informed its residents that the police will now enforce a Temporary Restriction of Movement Order as the cases of COVID-19 related deaths continue to surge in the south-eastern African Island.

Also, markets and social gatherings remain banned, minors are prohibited from leaving their homes except with supervision, outdoor exercising has also been banned.

Essential business activities and transactions are still permitted.

Failing to wear a face mask could cost up to $12,000 and a jail term. The fine went up ten times more than its initial value.

The measures appear quite stern as Mauritius has recorded a total of 1028 cases with 12 death casualties. The cases stemmed for a long period but it seems to have begun an upward tick in recent times.
