Kenya orders closing of all Refugee Camps within two weeks

The Kenyan Government has ordered for the UN refugee agency within its borders a 14-day ultimatum to shut down. There are plans to forcibly repatriate Somali refugees at Dabaab if the directives are not complied with.

Kenya has cited insecurity as a major concern on grounds that the camps are a breeding ground and decoy strategy for al-Shabaab led militia from Somali.

The Interior Minister, Fred Matiangi was quoted as saying protecting Kenyans is the governments domestic duty.

The UNHCR camp in Kakuma along the north-west have also been instructed to shut down.
