kenya removed from piracy red list

Kenya maritime has been removed from a list of high-risk areas within the Indian Ocean after 12 years by the International Maritime Organization and the United Nations agency.

The delisting will positively impact Kenya’s maritime activities and save the East African nation worthwhile expenses in insurance and other security expenses.

Also, neighbouring east African nations will be able to benefit from using the waterways for their import and export activities.

Cargoes meant for the cities usually travelled longer routes to avoid attacks from pirates, now that the waterways are under consistent surveillance, little to no incidents have been reported since 2017.
