The Katsina State Government says it has from inception in 2015 to date, spent a total of 4 billion Naira for the payment of Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, fees for about 410,253 candidates.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Badamasi Charanchi, who stated this to reporters, also said about 73 per cent of the total number recorded five credits and above, as against what obtained before the administration took over in 2015.
Professor Charanchi, who was speaking at the maiden press conference organised by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Home Affairs explained that the feat was achieved as a result of the aggressive education restoration policy by the Masari-led administration.
According to Charanchi, out of the 410, 253 candidates that sat for the examinations within the period under review, about 299, 218 candidates scored five credits and above, which he said represents 73 per cent.
He further hinted that the administration paid for all the students who wrote the exams from 2015 to 2020, amounting to 4 billion, and called on parents, guardians, and caregivers to continually support and appreciate the government for the gesture to restore educational lost glory in the state.
The Education Commissioner also reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure and learning facilities to any school so-identified as lacking in such.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Home Affairs, Abdulkarim Sirika, on his part, urged reporters in the state to imbibe the culture of balance and objective reportage.
He added that being the first maiden press briefing organised by his office, the government will continue to use the medium to blow its trumpet of achievements in the state.
