Kano Govt. To Plant 1m Seedlings During Tree Planting Campaign

Kano State government says it will plant one million seedlings during the 2021 Tree Planting Campaign.

The effort is in fulfillment of the pledge of the Federal Government and the 36 governors, to plant 25 million trees, to enhance the country’s carbon sink, as part of the nation’s effort, to implement the “Paris Climate Change Agreement”.

The importance of planting trees in societies is for the supply of oxygen, improve air quality by absorbing pollutant gases, and controlling climate, among others.

Before the flag-off of the campaign, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Kabiru Getso said, the Kano State government has, in collaboration with Givfree Africa, completed the necessary arrangements for planting 1 million seedlings across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The 2nd phase will be launched by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, at Yusuf Maitama Sule University, where 1,200 seedlings will be planted.
