Mackenzie Bezos, the recently divorced wife of Jeff Bezos has pledged today to donate half of her fortune which is half of an estimated $36 billion to charity.
She made the pledge as one of the 19 people who joined the ‘Giving Pledge’ Campaign an initiative of Warren Buffett and also Bill and Melinda Gates.
The pledge calls for super wealthy individuals to give away more than half of their fortune either during their lifetime or at their demise.
According to MacKenzie, in addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in her, she has a disporportionate amount of money to share.
Mackenzie is listed as the world’s third most richest woman after her split with Jeff
Jeff Bezos has thrown his support behind his ex-wife and shared on Twitter that
“MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I’m proud of her,”
“Her letter is so beautiful. Go get ‘em MacKenzie.”
