As part of activities to mark the International Girl-Child Day, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has temporarily handed over power to a 14-year old schoolgirl, Atika Aminu Yan’kaba, for one-hour administration to govern the state.

The symbolic handover of the mantle of leadership of the state to the teenager took place during the International Day of the Girl-Child organised by the United Nations Children Education Fund, UNICEF, held at the Government House in Kano.

Governor Ganduje, while delivering the handover speech, on a lighter note said, “in the name of Almighty God, I am willingly and temporarily handing over to you, as the incoming Governor of Kano State.”

The girl also responded with, “Thank You”.

However, after the takeover, the ” symbolic” Governor commenced council meetings, as other school girls acted as the governor’s cabinet members, where the girl-child was given priority.

The dramatic executive council meeting was held while Ganduje and his cabinet were cheerfully watching in awe and a happy mood.

Immediately after the meeting, Ya’nkaba handed over power back to Ganduje.

In his speech after the “re-taking over”, Ganduje told her that he was impressed by how she ran the government, and how she placed priority on the girl-child education.
