Ikom Communal Clash: Internally Displaced Persons Send SOS To NEMA

No fewer than 2,000 residents of Abankang and Alok Communities of Ikom Local Government Areas of Cross River State have been displaced following a communal clash over a land dispute.

Ikom is one of the largest local government area of Cross River State, shares boundary with Cameroon, and is noted for land-related communal clashes.

This Inter-communal conflict clash is between two agrarian communities Abankang and Alok villages.

The havoc has led to the destruction of properties worth millions of Naira while over two thousand citizens of the two communities are displaced.

The government at different times have intervened to settle the age-long communal clash, which led to the creation of a military checkpoint in the affected area, Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Kingsley Egumi explained that their withdrawal led to the current crisis.

The lasting solutions are what the community leaders and youth of the affected areas are advocating, as most of them are now displaced without shelters.

Currently, at least four persons have reportedly lost their lives while others various degrees of injuries.
