Meng Wanzhou finally allowed to return to China

After spending close to 3 years in and out of Canadian custody over a long extradition battle with the United States, Meng Wanzhou, the Chief Financial Officer, and daughter of Huawei founder, Ren Zhengfei.

Despite maintaining her innocence over some incriminating charges linking her to illegal trade ties with Iran, she was confined to her house in Canada and fought for her innocence from there since early 2019.

The altercation was the beginning of the strained relationship between the United States, Canada and China, which her lawyers described as unfair targeting by the US government, during Donald Trump’s administration.

Coincidentally, the crackdown began shortly after the Telecommunications giant announced their launch of the 5G network.

The conglomerate continued to thrive despite the sanctions. Meng Wanzhou has now been allowed to go home to China after successfully deferring her prosecution till 2022. In response, two Canadians detained in China were freed.
