The controversy over the eligibility or otherwise on the usage of hijab by female Muslim students in Christian mission grant-aided schools today turns bloody as both Muslims and Christian parents engage in free for all fight at the Baptist School along Surulere road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
While the government is insisting on the fundamental rights of everyone to dress the way they like, the Christians are insisting that since the issue is still at the Supreme Court, the government ought to wait for the judgment.
Early Wednesday morning, the State Government announced the reopening of the schools shut down about three weeks ago in order to allow senior students from partaking in the forthcoming examinations but there was a scene as both Muslim and Christian parents clashed over the matter.
What started as peaceful protests, however, turned rowdy as both sides throw stones at each other with some getting injured.
The Muslim resident, Hakeem Ayinde, who graduated from the school wondered why the Christian will disallow Muslim girls from wearing a hijab, the Christian missionary said that since the issue is still in court, the government should not impose hijab on their schools and demand the return of the school back to them.
There has been an uneasy calm in the affected schools as the security agencies have since mounted strategic locations leading to the schools.
