DRC CHOLERA OUTBREAK: DEATH TOLL AT 857

A total of 906 confirmed fresh cases of Cholera has been discovered in Yobe state, North-east, Nigeria. 61 death counts were recorded while 50 others patients are still on admission in hospitals across the State.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammad Kawuwa said Acute Water Diarrhea (AWD) cases were reported in some parts of the State and later confirmed to be Cholera after laboratory tests.

According to him, over 795 patients were successfully treated and discharged. He said the 61 patients that died was mainly due to delays in timely reporting to the healthcare facilities for life-saving treatment.

The commissioner identified personal hygiene, the absence of sanitation facilities in the communities and flooding of water sources by the rains as possible causes of the outbreak.
